debate that the affordable care act should be judged by healthcare.gov -- i mean, healthcare.gov's problems was an acquisition and procurement problem, not a health care problem. it's not like when we had butterfly ballot problems in florida, we decided to revert to monarchy. and we shouldn't, you know, sort of judge a health care policy based on, you know, what a website does. but for the ma part, i'm happy with where things are right now. >> here's what's interesting to me, with the website, the first day there was all this attention paid to it and the site was down and it was very hard from outside the black box to get a sense, is this website really broken or is this being hyped unnecessarily? and one of the things i found interesting about reading through what the administration's saying is, oh, yeah, it really, really was broken. a bar graph showing stability for the website, past 90%, which we should note is far below what most commercial sites have, around 99% at the lowest, but it was at 42% at the beginning of november. >> right. >> they have really, really, really

.gov. if you've already got health insurance or already taken advantage of the affordable care act, you've got to tell your friends and family and tell your co-workers and tell your neighbors. that's how fellow americans get covered and give every american a fighting chance in today's economy. thank you so much, everybody. god bless you. >> the president just wrapping up his first event of three-week pitch to refocus public attention on the benefits of the signature health care law and set out to remind americans that the law is more than a website. why a three-week initiative? because that's how long until the december 23rd enrollment deadline for new year's day coverage. one target audience was young americans. o he needs them 40% to be under 35 and healthy to make the structure work. msnbc's chris matthews sits down with students from american university and president obama on thursday as part of the exclusive hardball college tour. look for that right here. in the meantime, republicans are trying to keep the focus on the website's problems and targeting blue senators in red states remindin

, jonathan grubeman, professor of economics. he helped craft the affordable care act, and michael smerconish, an msnbc contributor. michael, i want to start with you. you have been struggling dealing with this affordable care act, trying to get coverage for you and your family. but it sound like you had something of a breakthrough today. >> i have had a horrific experience since october 1st, lawrence. in fact, i remember naively waking up at 5:00 a.m. on the day of the launch, thinking i would go on the site, explore my options, go on the radio and say here they are for my family of five. for eight weeks, could not get any satisfaction online until today. i'm online right now in real time, in fact, i don't think you'll bow able to see it too clearly -- >> hold it up, we'll try. >> all right, there are the 24 plans that are now available for my wife and me and our three sons. our daughter is about to hit 26, so she'll no longer be on the plan, but i can tell you i have 24 plans available to me. i'm in pen pep. we don't even have our own exchange. this via the federal exchange. they range on t

the affordable care act law faces. >> there will be other things that come up during the course of the next several months because you're starting off a new program that has an impact on 1/6 of the economy. this is a big deal, to quote joe biden. and so -- but we're just going to keep on working on it and improving it and we're not going to repeal it, not as long as i am president. >> joining me now, krystal ball and serving as special adviser for health policy in the obama administration. krystal, it sounds like the website is working like a website. >> yeah. and that is a beautiful thing, both because it's time for us to move past the debates and the questions about glitches and into actually seeing this law work in action. i mean, i think the republicans are going to find themselves in a very perilous place where they have pinned all of their hopes and all of their messaging and all of their platform on hoping that this law fails. they grabbed on to the website and they grabbed on to the president wasn't very straight with you. but over time the law is going to work better and better and

of the affordable care act. i don't have any quantitative information but i sure have a lot of qualitative information from the doctors that i know and nurses and healthcare professionals of all kinds that they are looking to pull the relationship cord and get out of profession. >> that will sink it. there is no doubt. all right. over at nbc news they apparently have let martin bashir go. he was forced to resign after saying vial things about sarah palin. number one, everybody makes mistakes if you do political commentary every day obviously you are going to make them. should have nbc let him go? >> first of all they made it appear like he resigned on his own which was a mistake. >> we all know that's not true. >> if they really wanted him to go they should have let it be nope they wanted him to go. everybody does make mistakes. sometimes people say something in the heat of the moment they regret. but this was a monologue that was prepared in which he had done historical research and referred to a slave owner who made slaves defecate into the mouths of other slaves. this was more than a mi

'm going with this. short of bringing about world peace before he leaves office, the affordable care act will loom large in the president's legacy, as the singular accomplishment of his two terms. and now following the relaunch of a new and improved and fully operational healthcare.gov website, the president is not only owning it, but doubling down. and putting a bright spotlight on the obama in obama care. this week, the white house announced that it is going to be all aca, every day, from now until december 2rd, enrollment deadline for coverage on january 1st. starting with the president himself, who has been pulling his best, you know, hustling almost every day this week, to make the hard sale on the affordable care act. this was his pitch on tuesday. >> i'm going to need some help in spreading the word. i need you to spread the word about the law, about its benefits, about its protections, about how folks can sign up. tell your friends, tell your family. do not let the initial problems with the website discourage you. >> and this was president obama on wednesday. >> i'm going to need
